While many countries have locked down their borders to the United States, there is still a large contingent of countries open to US travelers despite the coronavirus pandemic. The decision to travel remains up to individuals, with these places all being open for business. In no particular order, here are 10 exciting destinations that are still open to American tourists.
1. The United Kingdom
London initially saw quite a spike in cases, similar to what happened in NYC. That being said, the UK has now opened its doors to US tourists. The United Kingdom never officially closed its borders, but visitors from the US will be required to quarantine for 14 days.
2. Egypt
That’s right, the pyramids aren’t off limits. From Giza to Karnak, US tourists can visit Egypt and take in some ancient history.
3. Tanzania
From the beaches in Zanzibar to the safaris in the Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Crater, there’s a lot to explore in Tanzania. This is one of our favorite countries in Africa, especially for first time visitors to the continent.
4. The US Virgin Islands
There are still plenty of options if a little sunshine is what you’re after. The US Virgin Islands are open along with St. Vincent, St. Croix, and the Bahamas. The Caribbean is full of options.
5. Sri Lanka
The country located just south of India is home to incredible food, culture, and beaches. Sri Lanka is admittedly a long ways to go so it may deter travelers, but it’s an amazing country. Maybe save it for when a COVID-19 vaccine emerges.
6. Ecuador
One of the most beautiful countries in South America, Ecuador is home to some of the most amazing islands in the world: The Galapagos Islands. See the blue-footed booby, gigantic tortoise, and many other unique creatures when you visit.
7. Ireland
From the Ring of Kerry to the Cliffs of Moher, Ireland is as spectacular as they come. Here are 10 places in Ireland to explore when you visit.
8. Barbados
Barbados is allowing Canadians to enter without a visa for up to six months in an attempt to save the local economy, and Americans are welcome as well.
9. Croatia
From Dubrovnik to Plitvice, Croatia is a land of amazing cities and countryside. We’ve previously described it as heaven on earth, and these photos will prove it.
10. French Polynesia
Maybe the most relaxing destination on our list, French Polynesia is open to American tourists. There are luxury resorts located throughout French Polynesia, making it the perfect place to unwind.
