off the beaten path honeymoon destinations

Since you’re looking for honeymoon destinations…congratulations! That, or you’re just planning ahead, which we respect. Like mom said, a goal without a plan is just a wish.

If you’re the type of person that likes to blaze their own trail, you’re probably not interested in Mexico or Hawaii for your honeymoon. The five locations mentioned below are all in the Indian Ocean, offering a unique flare that you won’t find at a traditional destination. See for yourself why they’re so amazing.

5. Sri Lanka

This little island is highly sought after by honeymooners, for several reasons. First, it’s beautiful. The beaches are golden and the sunsets are otherworldly. On top of this, the island is also home to some delicious cuisine, adding to your trip.

Our hotel pick: Amanwella

4. Goa

Another excellent destination just a short flight from Sri Lanka is Goa, India. The Indian state is home to plenty of great resorts for honeymooners and is likely the easiest to travel to of the five destinations mentioned here. Its coastline stretches along the Arabian Sea, with beautiful beaches from top to bottom.

3. The Maldives

The Maldives are 26 ring-shaped atolls are made up of more than 1,000 islands, and they’re the perfect place to call home for a week or two after a busy wedding. Blue lagoons, extensive reefs, and warm waters make the Maldives the perfect place to take a dip. It’s the smallest location of the spots mentioned on this list, so if you’re looking for privacy, this is the spot. Each island only has one hotel, maximum.

Our hotel pick: Taj Exotica Resort & Spa Maldives

 2. The Seychelles

In between the size of the Maldives and Mauritius, The Seychelles offer a nice mix of what both islands have to offer. It’s a mix of both large, developed islands and small, more private ones. This offers visitors the choice – depending on which type of honeymoon you’re looking for. Expensive to get to, but well worth it.

Our hotel pick: Four Seasons Resort Seychelles

1. Mauritius

The most mountainous of the destinations on this list, Mauritius is absolutely stunning. It’s the views of the island that make it number one on our list. Mark Twain once wrote, ‘Mauritius was made first and then heaven, heaven being copied after Mauritius‘, to give you an idea of the natural beauty. Unlike the previous two islands mentioned, Mauritius is a single island, with plenty of resorts to choose from for your special trip.

Our hotel pick: The St. Regis Mauritius Resort
